Restaurant Jobs is one of the fastest growing onlne recruitment sites on the Internet. The traditional method of applying for jobs is in decline. The many advantages, and efficiency of online job advertising - and job seeking via professional dedicated online RECRUITMENT SITES - such as RestaurantJobs.co.uk is being adopted by employers and job seekers - globally. However, it is important to remember that the same RULES apply to online job applications. The internet has enabled the job seeker and employer a much more cost effective, efficient and enhanced way of executing the recruitment process.

The Online Recruitment Site

There are many sites on the internet claiming to be recruitment sites - therefore you should adopt a few basic rules when visiting these sites

  • On the "Contact US" or "Who we are" there should be a Royal Mail address -or- whilst PO Boxes are considered generally OK they should be accompanied by some other information as listed below
  • You are about to give out personal details - ensure the site is listed on the Data Protection register - and their Data Protection registration number is clearly listed. They will be proud to display it.
  • Ensure there is bona fide telephone / email / contact names
  • There is generally an "Who we are" or an "About Us" - if they are genuine they will tell you about their staff - as staff make all businesses work - and I am very proud of mine and want to tell people about them
  • In the UK Bona Fide company's are listed as a limited company (Ltd), or legal partnerships, or charitable orginisation, or Government bodies - e.g. we are called Online Strategies Ltd - ensure the site is run by one such organisation as the ones listed - if the information is not listed or is not clear email/telephone them and ask for clarification of their business status
  • Before registering check that the site / company does not sell (or pass on) your personal information, email address or CV - most sites tend to make these statements - if you in any way doubtful telephone them and ask for their policies regarding this information to be sent to you so that you have a record
  • Before registering check that the site is offers you the services you may need - ie confidentially, anonymous applications, the facility to manage all your applications plus etc - click here to see the extensive services we offer our job seekers

The Employer - Consultant - Advertiser

  • Adopt the golden rule - never judge a book by its cover - try not to judge an advertisement by its contents - simply because some employers are excellent employers - but perhaps not so good at compiling jobs description - although we try and make it very easy for them
  • A good employer (ie non-anonymous adverts) will provide at least 2 of the following: contact name(s) : Email address : Tel No : Mail Address
  • If in any doubt about the validity of the advertiser - telephone - or email the company - requesting information on their company - this is also part of your preparation for an interview
  • If the company appeals to you but not the job - always think of the wider picture and what can be achieved and what other opportunities are open to you - once you become an employee

The Advertisment

  • Some adverts do not always provide enough information about the job - don't hesitate in sending an email / telephoning the company to ask for more - ie a Job Description
  • If the title suits you but the description doesn't - don't right it off - we advise that you open communication lines with the employer
  • Online Job advertisement generally as a rule - if they are a professional online recruitment site will enable the employer to put in information on the job

The Anonymous Job Advertisement

  • Don't be alarmed or put off by anonymous job advertisements - on the whole there always tends to be genuine reasons why
  • Legitimate advertisements will always provide some sort of communication point - if in any doubt at all write/email/telephone before applying and giving out your personnel details and ask for further information - explain your concerns - genuine advertisers will attempt to alleviate any concerns
  • Never push the employer/headhunter/agency to reveal their identity until they are ready to do so
  • If you in turn wish to apply in a confidential manner, and do not wished to contacted at work - state that in your accompanying letter or email
  • If you apply to an anonymous job advert be patient if you don't hear anything immediately - a guideline is about 2/3 weeks and then send a polite reminder to the anonymous email address
  • If you get an interview and as part of your interview questions you decide to ask why they advertised anonymously - do so with caution and diplomacy - e.g I understand there are reasons why jobs are advertised anonymously - do you feel it appropriate to share that reason with me at this stage

The Anonymous CV / Application

  • Good online recruitment sites such as HospitalityRecruitment.co.uk will provide job seekers the chance to register their CV's anonymously
  • If you apply for a job anonymously and get invited for an interview - it is advisable that you disclose who you are prior to the interview
  • It is advisable that you turn up for the interview without disclosing who you are - that is not considered to be professional business etiquette
  • Your HR (HospitalityRecruitment.co.uk) Inbox and Username will guard your identity until you are ready to disclose your details - do not abuse this facility on professional recruitment sites
  • If you are invited for an interview and decide the job is not for you / or you do not want to attend the interview for whatever reason - and you do not want to disclose your identity - inform the employer with tact and diplomacy - e.g Thank you for considering my applications and inviting me for an interview. However with your permission I would like to withdraw my application as my circumstances have changed. I would like to thank you for your time you spent perusing my CV and wish you luck in finding a suitable applicant

  • Good professional online recruitment sites such as HospitalityRecruitment.co.uk will always provide a CV template for the job seeker to create their CV - these vary in size in design
  • Complete them as fully as possible - and not just piece meal - uncompleted templates CV's gives the employer the impression of someone who neither cares - nor is bothered about how they present their career - no matter what level your are at
  • Don't be tempted to lie on your template CV
  • Good sites will tell you how it takes to complete - some even such as HospitalityRecruitment.co.uk enable you to complete parts of it - and if you get interrupted for nay reasons - we will prompt you that you still have an uncompleted CV when you next add a CV
  • Good recruitment sites will always enable the job seeker to update/edit their template CV - do this regularly - as you are gathering new skills all the time - keep your CV up to date - you are ready to send it out immediately
  • Some sites such as HospitalityRecruitment.co.uk enable the job seeker to upload an MS word CV in their own design - if the sites supply this facility and you have access to a computer use this facility - some employers prefer CV's sent to them in word format

  • Do not use an unprofessional/abusive or rude email addresses - you will be disregarded before you are evan over the first hurdle. Always use an professional email address - eg j.s.smith20010@hotmail.com is appropriate - but jshit@hotmail.com is most certainly not
