Claims Handler - EL/PL

About the role:

Our In-House Claims Team are responsible for handling a range of Employer, Public and Product liability claims and are continually looking for ways to be innovative and stay at the forefront of the market.

Working closely with Solicitors, Loss Adjusters, our Store and Depot Managers and teams across the business, the Claims Handler will be responsible for providing a world class claims handling service that is cost effective and supports our vision to be Britain’s most trusted retailer.

The Ins and Outs:
Manage and handle a portfolio of Employers’, Public and Product Liability claims from first notification through to settlement in accordance with current legislation, court rules, internal and Insurer delegated authority requirementsInvestigate and determine the company’s liability in matters and manage individual claims reserves to ensure adequacy and integrity. Implement the most appropriate investigation methods/course of action and resolutionIdentify, investigate and take appropriate action with the relevant authorities on suspected fraudulent cases including the instruction of external investigators where necessaryReview, analyse and value medical reports and evidence of lossesNegotiate quantum ensuring appropriate, fair, ethical and economic outcomesDetermine appropriate control measures and risk improvements to prevent the reoccurrence of incidents or reduction of impact by identifying causes, trends and areas for improvements and provide proactive feedback to stakeholders including ComplianceProvide support, feedback and coaching on claims investigation and performance to stores, depots, regional managers and business unitsInstruct our panel of solicitors on litigated casesMaintain files and diary systems in accordance with required standards to aid proactive and efficient file managementAssist other team members as requiredMaintain and review accurate reserves and financial data for claimsInstigate recovery of outlay from third parties and suppliers as appropriateEnsure compliance with GDPR in the handling of claimsUpdate knowledge through independent reading, research and attendance at relevant events on all relevant legislation, policy and practice
What you’ll need:
Claims handling experience of EL/PL mattersExperience of handling MOJ and non MOJ claimsGood understanding and knowledge of Pre-Action protocol and CPR rulesWell-developed communication and presentation skillsAbility to influence at all levels and cross functionallyAttention to detail, accuracy and ability to thrive under pressure are absolute requirementsCommitment to excellence, continuous improvement, honesty and integrityAbility to manage time effectivelyCII/LPC/ILEX qualification desirableUnderstanding of personal injury litigation including Pre-Action DisclosureAbility to explain complex legal matters to non-legal personnel including customers Strong negotiation skills, good planning and organisation, able to use own initiativeAbility to work collaboratively
