Job Details

We're looking for a part time 20 - 25 hours per week Nursery Cook to provide lunch and afternoon tea to babies and children aged 3 months to 5 years at the brand new Better Nursery based at Burnt Oak Leisure Centre in Barnet, North West London.

Our Nurseries provide childcare and welfare for children of up to five years of age as well as providing support to their families, so it's imperative that the facilities and surroundings provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment.

As a Nursery Cook, you'll create healthy and nutritious balanced meals for children which meet individual dietary requirements, taking into account food allergies, medical conditions, and cultural needs. Meals will be planned on a 4-weekly menu rota that needs to be within budget plus you'll order supplies needed taking into account appropriate portion sizes and monitor stock levels of store cupboard ingredients. You'll also undertake washing up duties and cleaning of the kitchen area to comply with food hygiene regulations, keeping a record of cleaning schedule followed.

You'll have an NVQ Level 3 in Catering and Hospitality and a Food Hygiene certificate with experience of working in a kitchen as well as knowledge of allergies and dietary requirements. Supervisory experience in a catering environment is desirable as you'll need to set and implement consistently high standards and inspire your team to deliver to those same standards.

If you have experience of cooking for young children that will stand you in good stead as understanding children's palates and likes will be key. Naturally, you'll understand the business side of catering such as managing P&L accounts and budgets and have experience of running bespoke events.

In return, we offer a range of benefits that you'd expect from the UK's largest leisure provider:

  • Pension schemes
  • Ride to work scheme
  • Discounted membership at our leisure centres
  • The opportunity to join the GLL Society and have a say in how we're run plus associated social events
  • Career pathways
  • Ongoing training and development to help you to be the best

If you think you'd be a good fit for this role, apply now.

All pay rates are subject to skills, experience, qualifications and location.

To be shortlisted for the role, internal applicants will need to demonstrate their commitment to GLL by becoming a Society member where eligible.
