The Catering Department is responsible for a total meal service and hospitality services within the new NHS Acute Hospital for Forth Valley which has 860 beds on one site. It provides patient catering on a breakfast, lunch and supper service 365/6 days per year. It also provides a staff and visitor restaurant as well as a variety of vending and hospitality options during contracted hours. Community hospitals totalling approx 350 beds of site is provided for breakfast lunch and supper.

 

Job Purpose:

To assist in the delivery of all catering services to patients, staff and visitors within the NHS New Acute Hospital for Forth Valley including cleaning of all kitchen equipment and dining areas. Distribution of meals to wards and duties within the retail area of the catering operation. Catering assistants are required to maintain a clean, safe working environment adhering to health and safety working practice and food hygiene within the kitchen, dining and café areas.

 

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of meals for distribution to wards and dining areas.
  • Cleaning crockery, cutlery, utensils, containers
  • Dismantle, clean small scale equipment manually and machine washers in accordance with work schedules
  • Clean floors work surfaces, furnishings and related equipment manually and by use of machines in accordance with departmental work schedules
  • Prepare and present sandwiches/salads etc. within the cold stores of the catering department
  • Report any faulty equipment to supervisor as necessary
  • Operate cash register at point of sale/cash handling
  • Assist in the process of cashing up dining room takings
  • Ensure goods are stored correctly and use stock on a rotational basis
  • Adhere to strict personal high hygiene standards
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations
  • Dealing with public in restaurant and café areas
  • Maintain safe standards of work

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good verbal communication skills, customer service skills, and previous catering experience would be an advantage, including experience of working with cleaning chemicals.
  • Relevant training and qualifications would be desired for this post: Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, COSHH

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure.
